How modern democracy has been represented historically, how closely it relates not only to political participation but also to human rights, to the rule of law, to legal protection for every one – hardly any other historian has developed these issues as thoroughly and convincingly as Gerald Stourzh. Since the beginning of his academic career, Gerald Stourzh has been concerned with the history of modern democracy.
